The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) will collaborate to distribute $18 million included in the SFY 2020 budget to support prevention education for students in grades K-12.
Districts and community schools are urged to partner with the local Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health (ADAMH) board to complete the self-assessment and create a plan to access access prevention services. The deadline for school districts and community schools to contact your local ADAMH boards and inform them of their intent to complete the self-assessment is May 22. Local ADAMH boards that do not hear from districts by May 22 will assume the districts are not interested in receiving these services.
The Ohio Department of Education Prevention Education webpage shares a step-by-step process for how districts can engage in this important work if they have not already done so. The deadline to complete the self-assessment is June 30, 2020.
Provider agencies and child welfare agencies are applicable community partners to work through ADAMH board with school districts on prevention efforts. These providers are urged to contact your local ADAMH board so that they can list you as a partner agency.
