Our Alliance

In 1973, the Ohio Children’s Alliance was founded as Ohio’s first statewide child advocacy organization.  Formerly known as the Ohio Association of Child Caring Agencies, the Ohio Children’s Alliance is Ohio’s premier membership organization for community agencies who serve vulnerable children and families.

Our Alliance aims to ensure that Ohio’s evolving public policies result in a system that is integrated, efficient, cost effective, and beneficial to those that matter most – children and families.  We work closely with state government officials, including leaders at ODJFS, OhioMHAS, Medicaid, the Governor’s office, General Assembly, and officials at the county and federal levels.

Ohio Children’s Alliance also provides professional education and training services.  We convene projects aimed at improving care for children, including the Child and Family Health Collaborative of Ohio.  We hold over a dozen conferences and trainings each year on trauma informed care, best practices, and public policy topics.

Our Members

19660039 - CopyEach year, thousands of Ohio children must be placed into foster care or receive community-based care and treatment services.  Our member agencies provide those critical services, including foster care and adoption, community behavioral health, residential treatment, independent living, and specialized school services.

Many member agencies were founded in the 1800s by citizens concerned for children orphaned following cholera epidemics, natural disasters, and the Civil War.  Some were founded in the early and mid 20th century in response to even more children orphaned following the first and second World Wars.  More recently, several were founded to add to the array of high quality professional services for families and children, including those who come to the attention of the child protection, mental health, and juvenile justice systems.
